Persecuted, not abandoned.
I once read a very happy post that talked about how we all wear hats in life so I started thinking about how the hats we wear in life are positional and relational… such as Grandfather/Grandmother, Father/Mother, Son/Daughter, Sister/Brother, Husband/Wife, Worker (fill in the blank)– just to name a few. As I smiled reading the happy post, I started thinking about my own seasons in life as well as the seasons of loved ones that are close to me and started pondering how often we (aka- ME) can confuse the hats we wear with our identity. I thought about how God uses relational position (whether we view it as good or bad) in our lives and it is amazing how we can get so caught up in the hats we wear (or even the hats we want to or don’t want to wear) that we forget who we are at the core especially when our relational positions change– such as when we get married or divorced, when we lose a job or change jobs, when we have kids or our kids grow up and move away, when we lose a loved one. Although it is good to grieve our losses, in that grief we need to remember truth of who we are. Where do we get that truth? Jesus said “I am THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE.” The Bible says that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Jesus, the living, breathing Word is truth. The Word of God says that I am “fearfully and wonderfully made”, that God has GOOD PLANS to give me a hope and a future. In Christ, I am a new creation. No matter what hat I am wearing, hope to be wearing or am no longer wearing, above all else, I am a Child of God. That is my identity. That is who I am. That does not change. The older I get, the less I appreciate change so I take great comfort in the good things that do not change. “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.” Hallelujah!
